TRAINING OPPORTUNITY: YWCA Halifax Shift Change’s Leadership for the Future of Skilled Trades at Construction Safety Nova Scotia

This six-week course is designed for male supervisors working in the skilled trades to provide a space to explore the challenges and opportunities that exist in building and supporting diverse teams. This certificate does not expire.

Current and future workplace challenges ask a lot from leaders and supervisors. Male supervisors in skilled trades identified the need to learn how to create inclusive work environments, suitable for women, men and gender non-binary people. This course has been created and designed based on feedback and needs expressed by tradespeople.

The work is conversation-based and includes concepts like:


- Understanding and awareness of gender in the workplace
- Gender differences and identities
- Power and privilege
- Communication
- Gender-based violence
- Conflict resolution
- Leadership
- Action planning
This program will be delivered in partnership with YWCA Halifax Shift Change and is also promoted under the name Gender Inclusive Leadership Program.

Duration: Six three-hour sessions

Dates:

  • Session 1: September 26

  • Session 2: October 3

  • Session 3: October 10

  • Session 4: October 17

  • Session 5: October 24

  • Session 6: October 31

Cost:

  • Member: Free

  • Associate Member Plus: $1,000 + HST

  • Associate Member: $1,000+ HST

Pre-Requisites: Applicants must be male supervisors or leaders
