NEW: NSAA Apprentice Supports

NSAA has recently opened the Women in Trades Initiative (WITI) and the Apprenticeship Tools Grant. Combined with the ENS Financial Assistance program, new women in trades can receive financial support that reduces multiple barriers and costs.

The Women in Trades Initiative (WITI)

This stream of $750 aims to reduce barriers and support costs for tradeswomen.

Eligibility

  • Must be a newly registered tradeswoman (registered on December 4th, 2023 or later).

  • Work in one of the 39 construction and manufacturing trades.

  • Self-identify as a woman.

  • Live in Nova Scotia.

How to receive the support

  • Eligible tradeswomen will be contacted by the NSAA, and be offered to complete an application form. For questions please contact NSAA by:

Apprenticeship Tools Grant

This stream is a non-repayable one-time grant of up to $1000 to help new apprentices with essential tools, clothing, and PPE purchases.

Eligibility

  • A new apprentice with less than 500 employer hours.

  • Live in Nova Scotia.

  • Be employed 35hrs/week or more.

  • Apply within 90 days of receiving your Apprenticeship Welcome Letter.

ENS Financial Assistance

This stream covers essential miscellaneous costs including books, technology measures, travel, accommodations and childcare.

Eligibility

  • Have started the training process on or after July 1st, 2023.

  • Have received virtual or a combined virtual and in-person training format.

  • Must live in Nova Scotia.

  • IMPORTANT: The Employment Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Program form determines other eligibility requirements. To apply and determine eligibility, click HERE and press “Start Now.”

Important Information

  • The application requires access to LaMPSS Online using a computer, laptop, tablet, or cellphone.

  • Receipts will be required to cover the costs.

  • Some may be eligible for advanced payment for books and technology measures to have funds to purchase these items before training begins.

  • Technology measures is defined as computer systems and accessories, but not internet.
