NSCSC Introduction to Carpentry

Join the Nova Scotia Construction Sector Council’s Introduction to carpentry program. The 17-week program starts on April 29th and ends on August 23rd, 2024. It is open to residents of Nova Scotia who are Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents, and with a focus on those from equity-deserving groups (Indigenous Peoples, African Nova Scotians, Racially Visible Individuals, Persons with Disabilities, Newcomers, and Women).

What the Program Includes

  • An intro to the Carpentry trades.

  • Industry-relevant safety training (WHIMS, Construction Entry Level Training, Fall Protection, Confined Space and Emergency First Aid).

  • In-class theory and hands-on training activities.

  • Trades Math, Skills for Success and Job Readiness training.

  • 2 weeks of monitored work placement with a local employer.

Who Can Apply

  • Open to residents of Nova Scotia, with a focus on attracting individuals

    from equity-deserving groups including Indigenous Peoples, African Nova

    Scotians, Racially Visible Individuals, Persons with Disabilities, Newcomers,

    and Women.

  • Individuals must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and a

    resident of Nova Scotia.

  • Additional prerequisites for this program include a High School Diploma

    or GED. Individuals without a Diploma may be considered if they are willing

    to obtain a GED.

  • Applicants to this program may also qualify for financial supports. Please

    discuss at time of application.
